LUCHA NIKE WRESTLING DOCUMENTARY

IDEA

Waffle Iron Entertainment was born, to express Nike’s values, celebrate the power of sport and inspire next generation athletes through entertainment properties. Two years into its existence, WIE has garnered Sports Emmy and Critics Choice nominations as well as secured an unprecedented first-look development deal with AppleTV+ for all scripted sports films.

Lucha is a documentary feature co-produced with Waffle Iron Entertainment, which follows one of the first high school girls wrestling teams in the United States. Over the course of two seasons, the girls of Taft High School in the Bronx use the skills they learned on the mat to combat their own individual challenges off it.

RESULTS

Lucha was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at Doc NYC for the Metropolis section focused on films about or taking place in New York and runner-up for the Audience Award.
